Stop Looking for Magic Pills
One big problem that people may create for themselves while trying to change or grow in life is that they go on the search for magic pills.
What is a magic pill?
Well, basically looking at something – a book or a just a tip – as a complete and quick solution for your problem. Thinking that that thing will “fix you”, just like a pill from the doctor could.
Now, magic pills can be quite harmful to you. Here’s a few reasons why you should avoid chasing after them:
An Excellent 2008 - An Even Better 2009
The new year is around the corner. It will be filled with opportunities to live better and smarter than ever before. Over the holidays, take some time to think clearly about that last 12 months, make notes about any make changes you have thought about making in all areas of your life. Be sure to think about all your successes, big and small, and write them down. Determine to continue your best activities in the new year. But be honest about your weaknesses, your mistakes, your "blind spots," and write them down as well.
We are all Learners and you are the Teacher
Have you ever watched a movie or read a book, and got nothing out of it?
Have you ever enrolled in a workshop or evening class and got nothing out of it?
A couple of days ago I was chatting to a friend about a book we had both read, the book was actually about core values. He was amazed when I said how great one particular section was and how it had deepened my commitment to my own values because he had found the book pretty boring.
Guess what? It was because that was what I needed to hear.

Being Who You Are in a World Built for Survival
Many people believe that they are not who they are meant to be.
While this feeling seems to persist over the course of our life, it’s hard to know why and how we feel that way. It’s even harder to know what to do about it. Sometimes, you don’t even know where to begin.
Well, there are multitude of reasons why you are not who you are meant to be. But one of the reasons is that we are in the big picture of human evolution. Our societies aren’t yet built to empower or encourage individuals to realise their full potential as a human being. Society isn’t yet mature enough to nurture such development.
I am going to illustrate why this is below, so that we can collectively start to visualise what needs to be done to change it and then to actively begin the work of changing.
The Role of Social Drag in Stealing Dreams
Sorry, this is not an article about quick change artists nor is it about cross dressing parties. It is about, if we allow it, through fear or blindness, how society in general and close relationships in particular will hold us back. Social Drag steals Dreams. Social Drag keeps us from daring to be who we truly are, it keeps us small and fearful, living in the shadows. Social Drag is also a huge opportunity.
Our Sacred Inipi Workshop at Willunga last weekend
Last weekend we held our the last lodge of the Sacred Inipi Workshop at Willunga. It had been 4 years since we'd gathered together in the Lodge. Cheryl White and her partner Mark Cockburn, who run the Paint Soul Gallery, were kind enough to allow us to use their property for the duration of the workshop.
Secrets to an Excellent Life #5
In previous articles, we’ve looked at the attributes of people with Excellent Lives, and we began with personal integrity. From there we moved on to the excitement that comes from having a crystal clear vision coupled with the power of self-discipline and unstoppable optimism.
In this article, we turn to the more practical nuts-and-bolts of creating an excellent life.
First I must Change – A Revolution of the Mind
Today was clean up day on my desk. Now, everyone who knows me would realise MY desk is NEVER untidy but, I did it anyway. After all the dust had settled the only thing left was this piece I am posting now.
I don't even know how long I’ve had it sitting there. I do know however, every time I feel a bit stuck it turns up to remind me of the very first flip chart I ever saw in a personal growth seminar, over 20 years ago: FOR THINGS TO CHANGE, FIRST I MUST CHANGE. I also know it feels right to put it up here, NOW!!
Genius
I find it quite funny when people derive 'meaning' from a word that was invented to capture just that. How well a word is defined, depends on the insights people had at that time. And you can't make flower and eggs from a cake..
Analysing the origin of the word intelligence is not the same as explaining intelligence. As far as genius is concerned - I find the following indicators fairly accurate:

My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.
